Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS)

AOSIS is a coalition of 39 small island and low-lying coastal developing states, uniting the regions of the Caribbean, Pacific, African, Indian Ocean and South China Seas. As a voice for the vulnerable, our mandate is more than amplifying marginalised voices as we advocate for our countries interests on the world stage. In terms of size, AOSIS closely resembles the countries we represent in global negotiations, but often punch far above our weight, negotiating historic global commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions, among other achievements. Currently Chaired by Samoa To achieve its goals, AOSIS often draws on partnerships, including with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Commission, to bolster its capacity to effectively influence climate negotiations, some of the most complex and difficult in the world.
