Our organization began in 1981 with a quest to help kidney programs by collecting used clothing and household goods. While other charities often focus on rehabilitation, AKS saw an immediate need for direct financial aid among the nearly 26 million sufferers of kidney disease and renal failure. As these patients wait on a kidney transplant list, they are forced to undergo dialysis several times a week. Not only does this take a debilitating toll on their health, but it also disrupts their daily lives to the point where they may not be able to hold down a job, keep up with their rent, or pay their power bill. However, AKS felt that monetary assistance could help them with their general cost of living, thereby increasing their quality of lifeall by asking Atlanta area residents like you to donate to charity.
