In 1986, three engineers left a large engineering firm to establish Applied Technologies, Inc. (ATI). The three desired to create an environment that fostered relationships and allowed them to expand their expertise in water and waste management, renewable energy, and structural engineering. By 1992, ATI had outgrown its small original space and moved into its current location in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Soon thereafter, the firms Lake Villa office opened.
