Ashington Academy

Ashington Academy was opened in 1960 as Ashington Grammar School and became a comprehensive school in the mid-seventies. We are now an 11 to 18 secondary school and sixth form. In 2007 we became a foundation school (we own our land and buildings and employ our staff) and part of the Ashington Learning Partnership, one of the first educational trusts in the country. We left the Ashington Learning Partnership on 1 March 2016, but remain part of the wider Ashington Partnership with our five feeder primary schools: Bothal Primary, Central Primary, Ellington Primary, Linton Primary and Pegswood Primary. We have highly committed staff and a strong and enthusiastic governing body. Parents are very supportive of the school. As an extended school, we have a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities and adult education.
