In 1988, Geoff Hutch Hutchison purchased a small surf shop down the back of an alleyway in Victoria St, Hamilton. Having just taken a redundancy from NZ Rail, he decided to follow his passion of surfing and purchased the business named after Backdoor Pipe, a famous surf break on Hawaiis North Shore. After selling just one block of wax on his first day he wondered whether he had done the right thing... Hutch was joined by his brother-in-law, Cameron Cutmore, in 1997 and a second store was opened. The rest is history now with 18 stores across the North Island...
