Balfego, the sustainable bluefin tuna

Our business group was founded fruit of the efforts of the fifth generation of Balfego family fishermen. It is currently the foremost company in the study, husbandry and marketing of Mediterranean bluefin tuna, and deploys innovative production and traceability systems. Balfego bluefin tuna husbandry provides unsurpassed quality by being sustainably managed, from an innovation and traceability perspective. We carry out the annual fishing process with boats equipped with the latest technology, pursuing maximum efficiency and sustainability. Our boats, La Frau and Tio Gel are captained by the presidents of the company, Manel and Pere Vicent Balfego. Our method of capture is seine netting, enabling mono-species directed fishing for adult bluefin tuna without interrupting their reproductive processes and cycles.
