PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (Maybank or the Bank) was founded on 15 May 1959. After obtaining a license as a foreign exchange bank in 1988, BII had its shares listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and Surabaya Stock Exchange (now merged as Indonesia Stock Exchange) in 1989. As a publicly listed company, Maybank has grown to become one of leading private banks in Indonesia. In 2008, the largest bank in Malaysia that is also one of the leading financial groups in ASEAN, Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank), acquired Bank through its entirely owned subsidiary, Maybank Offshore Corporate Services (Labuan) Sdn. Bhd. (MOCS). Since then, Maybank has become the majority shareholder of Bank through two of its subsidiaries, Sorak Financial Holdings Pte. Ltd. (Sorak) and MOCS.
