Black Girl Environmentalist

Black Girl Environmentalist is a national community dedicated to empowering Black girls, women and non-binary people in the climate movement. We create pathways for emerging climate leaders of color to thrive across environmental disciplines through the areas of: community building, green workforce development, and narrative change. BGE was founded by climate activist and Rhodes Scholar Wawa Gatheru. Having been in the environmental and climate space for almost ten years, Wawa could not help but notice that while Black girls and women exist at the forefront of environmental injustice, they were amongst the least supported or celebrated in the mainstream environmental movement. She founded BGE to help cultivate opportunities for BGEs to be supported and empowered.
