Bronx Conservatory of Music

The Bronx Conservatory of Music was founded in 1991 by Elizabeth Thode Hoard, a 1927 graduate of the Juilliard School, where she studied piano. A long-time resident of the Bronx, she served with great distinction for forty-six years at the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind (currently the New York Institute for Special Education), and spent several years as its Director of Music. The mission of the Bronx Conservatory of Music (BCM), as sought by Mrs. Hoard, is to provide private music instruction of the highest quality to Bronx children and adults, in their own neighborhoods, at lowest possible tuition; thereby making conservatory training accessible to all. In fulfilling this mission, the school also seeks to develop audiences for fine music in the Bronx and to contribute to the music culture of the Bronx.
