Broxmouth House was designed by James Nisbet of Kelso as a dower house for the 3rd Duke of Roxburgh in 1775. The original Broxmouth site was acquired by the Roxburghes in 1644 and was used as a second home by the family for many years. The house is close to the historic site of the Battle of Dunbar, the last battle between England and Scotland, which took place in September 1650.
