To preserve, promote and perpetuate the history, tradition and outstanding contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers toward the development and defense of the United States of America.In its first year of operation, the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum had over 20,000 visitors. In recognition of the museums contributions to its surrounding community and all of Houston, Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown proclaimed November 30, 2001 as Buffalo Soldiers Day.
