Indonesia generates 7.8 million tonnes of plastic waste annually with an estimate of 4.9 million tons mismanaged due to poor collection and disposal infrastructure. Roughly 600,000 tons of this ends up in Indonesias waterways and oceans. While waste collection remains an issue, recycling accounts for only 10-15% of this plastic waste. Poor sorting infrastructure and low quality processing have made recycled plastics unsuitable for large scale users such as FMCG, Automakers and industrial users.
