Canadian Authors is Canadas first and longest-running national writers organization. Founded in 1921 by Stephen Leacock and other prominent authors of the day, we have evolved into a wide-reaching organization that is a unique blend of intimate local community and dynamic national network. We are a membership-based organization for writers at all stages of their writing careersaspiring, emerging, and professionalin every genre. With nine branches and twigs across the country and an active community of members-at-large, we serve our members by: Providing opportunities for professional development Promoting the fair and equitable treatment of writers Working in partnership with other relevant organizations Increasing awareness of Canadas writing and publishing environment Our programs help writers network, develop their skills, and promote their work.
