About Us

Carey Group was founded in 1951 by Brian Carey, who joined Larry Kellys accounting practice in Ingham. Brians sons, John and Robert, joined later, and the firm became BJ Carey and Company. In 1988, Joe Carey, Brians son, also joined the family business. In 2002, the Townsville Office opened, offering Financial Planning and SMSF Administration. From 2006 onwards, the firm traded as Carey Accountants, Carey Financial, and Strategic SMSF. In 2016, the firm restructured as the Carey Group, providing Accounting, Audit, Financial Planning, SMSF, and Business Services. In 2017, Shirvington Partners was acquired, expanding the firms presence in Northern Queensland. The newly renovated Townsville office, which serves as the central point of the Carey Group, opened in 2019. Matt Thomson joined as CEO & Managing Partner that year.
