Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems (CReSIS)

The Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems (CReSIS) was established as a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center (NSF-STC) in 2005 with the mission of developing new technologies to measure the characteristics of the major ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica; and integrate these data products into computer models to predict their response can contribution to sea level rise to a changing climate. The center builds on a long history of remote sensing at KU dating back to the early 1960s and airborne remote sensing of ice sheets back to the early 1990s. Today and looking forward, CReSIS focuses on developing technologies for capturing and managing large quantities of data through aerial systems. We continue to create and refine radars, antennas, sounders and other systems capable of surveying large areas from both large and small aircrafts.
