Competition policy is a critical component of any overall economic policy framework of every country. Competition Policy is intended to promote efficiency and to maximize consumer as well as social welfare. To strengthen the forces of competition in the market, both competition law and competition policy are required. It promotes creation of a business environment with efficient resource allocation and wherein abuse of market power is eliminated. With the liberalization policy of 1991 the concept of ensuring healthy competition has become all the more important. The Parliament has towards this end brought the Competition Act, 2002.
