Centro Espigas

Centro Espigas is an educational center located in Puntas de Manga, in the north west area of Montevideo. Most of the people who attend to the center come from nearby neighbourhoods, but many others come from a long way, because in this area many rural establishments are located. Through Retonio Foundation, Baroness Nina Von Maltzahn chose this area to develop a project, in order to provide attention to educational needs of vulnerable children. From a previous experience with El Hornero educational centre in 2002, Centro Espigas opened in 2005 with a CAIF (children up to 3 years old) and a Club de Ninos (with children from 4 to 12 years old, (who come before or after school shifts). Both programs work in agreement with INAU. After a reestructure of previous projects, in 2015 Proyecto Simiente was born, to support primary school students of fifth and sixth degree.
