City of Mount Pleasant

Respectful of our heritage and preparing for the future I think this describes the City of Mount Pleasant. Located at the hub of Southeast Iowa, we are at the crossroads of two four-lane highways connecting major cities of the Midwest. The city with its hardworking, loyal employees, dedicated council members, numerous volunteers and interested citizens, have all aspired to make Mount Pleasant unique. We have worked to preserve our heritage, from Iowa Wesleyan College, the oldest private coed college west of the Mississippi River; to the President Abraham Lincoln connection with Mount Pleasants Senator James Harlan; to the preservation of the boyhood home of world- renowned scientist Dr. James Van Allen. Splendid old homes and buildings are found throughout the older parts of town.
