Colakoglu Makina went into operation in 1980 under the name of Colakoglu Engineering Machinery Industry Trade Ltd. founded by Mechanical Engineer M.Sc Halil Celikarslan. Colakoglu Makina aimed to operate in two branches as the manufacturing of process equipment of the tea factories and the production of cranes. A few years after its establishment, welded steel structure manufacturing and assembly activities have gained an increasing momentum. Colakoglu Makina signed its first industrial plant agreement in the mining sector in 1994 with Cayeli Copper Enterprises Inc., which was a Canadian company in that year.
