On April 20, 1994, a 64Kbps international dedicated line to the Internet was opened at Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and China has since then achieved full-functional connection to the Internet and become the 77th country on the Internet on a permanent basis. On May 24, 1994, the first root server of the .cn national domain name was established in China. The State Science and Technology Commission formally approved the establishment of CNIC in March, 1995
