Dandy Dons HomeMade Ice Cream started in 1981 as a retail shop called The Creamery in Tarzana, CA. It soon became apparent to owners Linda and Don Whittemore that the real opportunities were in supplying super premium ice cream to Los Angeles area restaurants, hotels and country clubs. The Whittemores opened their manufacturing plant in Van Nuys and began creating over 100 varieties of ice creamfrom classic vanilla bean to the more exotic like pink ginger and jalapeno grapefruit-- using only natural flavors, natural colors, the finest fresh fruits, nuts and high quality mix-ins, all made without preservatives. Dandy Dons HomeMade Ice Cream boasts extremely low overrun and a rich 14-18 percent butterfat. Because the ice cream is so dense, a 3gal. tub weighs 18 lbs. and yields 72 four-ounce scoops making it a better value to operators and more profitable than most ice creams available to foodservice.
