Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla

Deendayal Port is one of the Major Ports in the Country functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. Prior to 2021, the Port was governed by the Major Ports Act 1964, however after 2021, the Major Port is governed by Major Ports Authorities Act 2021. The Ports journey began in 1931 with construction of RCC Jetty by Maharao Khengarji. The Port of Kandla is located on the Gulf of Kutch on the north-western coast of India, about 256 nautical miles southeast of the Port of Karachi and over 430 nautical miles north-northwest of the Port of Mumbai. Due to the partition of India from Pakistan, India lost its important Port of Karachi and the Port of Kandla was constructed and developed in the 1950s as the chief seaport serving Western India, to ease the congestion of handling the volume of trade on the Port of Mumbai.
