The Department of Rural Housing as one of the implementing agencies under the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing has gone through metamorphoses over the years. First the Ghana Workers Brigade, was established out of Parliament in 1957 in the first republic. The promulgation of the establishment proposal led to the formation of the Department in March 1974.
