DermLite LLC, a privately-held company headquartered in San Juan Capistrano (about 90 km south of Los Angeles), designs & markets the worlds leading dermatoscopes under the DermLite brand. Dermatoscopes are a diagnostic tool for skin cancer screening, giving dermatologists a magnified, illuminated view of skin lesions. Founded in 1999 by John Bottjer, Nizar Mullani and Thorsten Trotzenberg, the company, which has in-house design, engineering and assembly capabilities, launched the worlds first polarized pocket dermatoscope at the American Academy of Dermatologys Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., in early 2001.
