The District Council of Karoonda East Murray is dedicated to serving the community of Karoonda and surrounding areas, located in the heart of South Australias Murray Mallee region. Established in 1979 through the amalgamation of the District Councils of Karoonda and East Murray, the Councils role is to govern, manage, and support the regions development while preserving its rich history and unique environment. Karoonda, the districts major township, has a proud agricultural heritage. Since its founding in 1911, the region has been a hub for dryland farming, with a focus on broadacre grain and wool production. Today, the district embraces modern, sustainable farming practices that ensure continued productivity.
