Downers Grove South High School

Since opening our doors over 50 years ago, South High School in Downers Grove has graduated over 30,000 young men and women. South High opened in 1964, and has been and continues to be a prominent high school in the Chicago area. As an indication of the level of excellence of our school, we continuously receive many outside accolades and validation. For example. In the 2016 study by the U.S. News & World Report, South High is a Silver Medal School, ranking 77 in Illinois and 1,841 in the U.S. Also, on the website Niche, which offers rankings, reviews and statistics on schools, South High ranks 72 in Illinois. Over the course of 50 years, our students have built a rich tradition of excellence in academics, performing arts, athletics and activities. Opportunities abound for students and we are excited to see what the future has to offer as we build upon that reputation
