Welcome to the Edward Thomas Collection, founded in 1982 by Edward and Thomas Slatkin, who follow in the footsteps of two previous generations of proud family hoteliers and continue to develop and redefine the role of successful ownership and operation of luxury hotels. The most famous example of ETCs vision is Shutters on the Beach Hotel, Santa Monica. It began as abandoned, foreclosed property perched on a dicey stretch of Santa Monica beach, in the shadows of the Santa Monica pier. Purchased in 1991, ETC set out to recapture the tradition and elegance of Americas historic beach resorts from the 20s and 30s and in the process completely reinvigorated a stretch of Santa Monica that now attracts more tourists and business travelers that even before.
