Egypts Government Accountability Office

Established in 1942, the Accountability State Authority (ASA) is an autonomous auditing institution in Egypt that operates as a mechanism of public finance regulation. The ASA oversees the management of various public-sector organizations, including approximately 130 central government departments and administrative units, 120 service agencies, 29 governorates, 50 economic authorities, and more than 160 state-owned enterprises, political parties, trade unions, national and party news media, and all units subsidized by the State. In addition, the ASA has the authority to examine and audit the work and accounts of any other entity assigned to it by the President, the Prime Minister, or the Peoples Assembly of Egypt.
