The Government of India runs the EMRS scheme under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for tribal students nationwide. For the smooth functioning of EMRS, NESTS, (National Education Society for Tribal Students) is a registered society that works as an autonomous body. To give more focus on the integrated socio-economic development of the Scheduled Tribes (STs), the underprivileged section of the Indian Society, it ensures to provide quality education to the tribal students even in remote areas. Presently, 367 EMRSs are running countrywide and 462 new EMRSs have been sanctioned, as per declaration by the Honble Prime Minister. The sanction of Eklavya Model Residential School was given by the Ministry of Tribal Affair, Govt of India, under article 275(1) as per the Gazette notification no- 14020/11/2002-SG&C dt. - 19.02.2004.
