Emerge Advocacy

Emerges trained Youth Workers bring a #VoiceOfHope to young people who have visited A&E because of self-harm, a suicide attempt or emotional crisis. We train and support volunteers who join us in being there for young people until late in the evening so that they dont have to go through a difficult time alone. We offer a friendly chat, help to understand and engage with the hospital process, distraction from upsetting feelings and, taking an asset based approach, encourage young people to take steps towards more more hope-filled future. Our care doesnt stop when young people leave hospital, we stick with them for up to three months, meeting for coffee (or hot chocolate!) to keep supporting and encouraging them to reach out and engage with NHS mental health services as well as helping them to connect with things in their local communities that will bring life to them.
