Epilepsy can strike at any time. Anyone at any age can be diagnosed with epilepsy, it does not discriminate against gender, ethnicity or socio-economic backgrounds. Epilepsy is the worlds most common brain disorder, 10 % of New Zealanders will have a seizure during their lifetime, whilst 1-2 % will be diagnosed with Epilepsy. Thats an estimated 48-50,000 people in New Zealand The impacts of Epilepsy on people that experience and live with it can be debilitating, frightening and life threatening. Not everyone that lives with epilepsy needs help, but everyone has the right to support if they want it. Putting the Whanau and Tamariki at the centre of all we do, we work towards addressing inequities so that people living with epilepsy feel safe, supported and connected, ensuring children are able to get a good education, help people get and keep jobs and stop unavoidable deaths.
