Essenwood Residential Home

Our home has a long & proud history of service to the older gentlewomen. We were borne out of the Durban Benevolent Society (established in 1855) and boast over 160 years of loving care & service to Durbans golden ladies. Our structure as a service-based organisation has evolved over the years to keep in line with legislation. Starting out as a voluntary association, we have, since 1950, been a non-profit company, formed for the purpose of providing a Home for Indigent Gentlewomen. From that point onwards, the management of the home was taken over by a board of directors. We offer across the spectrum full board accommodation for senior ladies, from independent & assisted living through to frail & palliative care. Our objective is to provide the best type of care for each persons needs. We see caring as a holistic function, which is why we focus a lot of our resources on social & entertainment activities.
