With 19 academic and research staff, more than 20 affiliated lecturers, approximately 200 undergraduates and 70+ postgraduate students, the Faculty of Music lies at the heart of a vast network of musical study, research and practice. As a highly rated research centre, our areas of special expertise include medieval and renaissance music, early modern music, nineteenth-century music, opera, popular music, ethnomusicology, performance studies, composition, and scientific approaches to music: research students, postdoctoral fellows, college lecturers and distinguished international visitors work on a dizzying variety of topics. The Faculty hosts the Cambridge Centre for Musical Performance, which supports the work of the vast and unrivalled performance community in Cambridge and provides a platform for practice-based research into musical performance and the Centre for Music and Science (CMS).
