Fannie Battle Day Home

The second oldest childcare center in Tennessee, our organization began in 1891 when Miss Fannie Battle, a teacher and social worker, saw a need in our community. Children were left alone to roam the streets while their parents went to work. She rented a room in East Nashville and began caring for these children by clothing, feeding, educating, and even obtaining much-needed medical attention. Today, Fannie Battle Day Home continues to provide high-quality childcare to Nashville families. To ensure tuition is affordable for all rates are on a sliding scale based on income and family size. Childcare fees and subsidies only account for about 50% of our operation budget where the remainder is fundraised through individual and corporate contributions, events, and grants. Through a partnership with Tennessee Department of Human Services and Unite Way of Metropolitan Nashville, we help empower families through the Family Empowerment Program.
