Fundacao Romao de Sousa Casa de Alba

Romao de Sousa Foundation was created by Jose and Maria Romao de Sousa with the aim of helping people with severe mental health problems. It is set on a 20 acre property in the province of Alentejo, in Central Portugal, about 100 miles east of Lisbon. The Foundation was registered in Portugal as a IPSS - Instituicao Privada de Solidariedade Social (Private Institution of Social Solidarity) and was recognized by the Ministry of Health and Social Security as Pessoa Colectiva de Utilidade Publica (Institution for Public Benefit) on July 2010. The Statutory Bodies are a Board of Directors (3), a Board of Trustees (5) and a Fiscal Council (3). Casa de Alba was the chosen name for its first Therapeutic Community.
