Galaxie Business Equipment was started in 1972 by James and Dolores French in Oxford, Kansas. They provided service and support for typewriters and other office products to schools and businesses in Harper, Sumner and Cowley Counties. In 1981 the decision was made to move the business to Winfield. At that time the Frenchs son Nathan became a full time employee. Additionally, Edward (Friday) Lockyear, a lifelong Winfield resident, well-known for his office machine repair skills, joined the company.
