GIZ South Sudan

The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in the area that is today South Sudan since the 1970s, on a periodic basis. GIZs coordination office has been located in the capital, Juba, since 2010. GIZ works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in the following three priority areas: Food and nutrition security and rural development Urban water supply and sanitation Rural development and good governance. In the field of food and nutrition security, GIZ and its partners are working to combat undernourishment and malnutrition among children and women and raising awareness for health issues. The German Government is supporting local water utilities in four towns and cities in ensuring public drinking water supplies and sanitation, while making these services affordable and accessible even for low-income groups.
