A student-run engineering team focusing on designing and building human-powered submarines and race against other university teams from around the world. The Human Powered Submarine Team at UW has been building submarines for 30 years. The team was founded in 1989 at the Applied Physics Laboratory and then became affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering in early 1990s.
