iDE Bangladesh

iDE Bangladesh was established in 1984 as iDEs first country program. The program pioneered the development of private sector supply chains for manual irrigation pumps, recognizing the huge productivity constraint that a lack of steady access to water had on rural farmers. After an initial success in promoting the rower pump, we found an efficient and cost-effective solution to the problem of water control in the treadle pump. To date, more than 1.5 million treadle pumps have been sold in Bangladesh, creating 1.4 billion dollars in net additional income per year. Today, iDE Bangladesh focuses on two broad themes: Agriculture and WASH and implements programs focused on using a market-oriented development model to improve the lives of people living in poverty.
