Information Technology Promotion Cell, Govt. of West Bengal

Government of West Bengal set up Information Technology (IT) task Force in March 1999. Based on the recommendation of the Task Force, the State declared Information Technology Policy in January 2000 and set up an independent Department of Information Technology in February 2000 with a mandate to create conducive environment for rapid development in IT sector as well as facilitate ICT initiatives in Government. In August 2012, the name of the department was changed to Department of Information Technology and Electronics (DITE) to emphasize the importance of electronics in ICT sector. The objective of the Department is to Bridge the Digital Divide and Shape a Digital Future for West Bengal for All-inclusive Growth. The IT Department is headed by Honorable Minister In Charge (MIC).
