During the summer 2009 Aker Drillings two top-of-the-class sixth generation semi-submersible drilling rigs for harsh environment and ultra-deep water drilling will be ready for operations. The Aker H-6e semi-submersible drilling rig represents something entirely new in the rig industry. Based on more than 30 years of experience and construction of 39 Aker H-3 and Aker H-4 class drilling units, the Aker H-6e rigs are a size up from other sixth-generation rigs. The 6e designation denotes that they have been designed for extreme offshore regions and to strict environmental specifications.
