Jones Beach Rescue

Jones Beach State Park is exceptional. There was nothing like it when the park opened in 1929 and it remains one of the greatest civic achievements of the twentieth century. Designed by Robert Moses for ordinary people, Jones Beach was far from ordinary. It provided a spectacular oceanfront setting, outstanding architecture, beautiful landscapes, and world-class recreational facilities all for the price of a parking fee. In its heyday, Jones Beach was truly a day at the beach. While the park continues to deliver a great seaside experience, it has significantly diminished over the years due to deferred maintenance. As a premiere park in the State System, Jones Beach always demanded special attention and current fiscal realities indicate that the Parks Department simply cannot keep up with its needs.
