Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V. (KME) is the European head office representing Kawasaki Motors Ltd of Japan, a company which forms part of one of the most versatile and successful Japanese industrial conglomerates in the world, Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The origins of the Kawasaki group of companies began in 1878, when Shozo Kawasaki founded his own shipyard in Tokyo. As the years passed, the company expanded its activities beyond marine into aircraft, rolling stock and large commercial engineering projects. The current multinational Kawasaki Heavy Industries was born out of a merger between the shipyard, and the aircraft and rolling stock enterprises in 1969.
