Kaye Academic College of Education was founded in 1954 in Beer Sheva. The establishment of the college laid the foundations of the education system in the Negev. The college expanded and developed rapidly, and is training teachers including new immigrant teachers and teachers in the Bedouin sector for most teaching tracks. In 1994, Kaye College was granted academic status, and was thereby entitled to confer a B.Ed. degree. Since 2007 Kaye College is entitled to confer M.Ed. degree as well. The teacher education programs at Kaye Academic College of Education are among the best in Israel, and are on a par with leading teaching programs in other parts of the world. At the present time, there are approximately 3,000 Jewish and Bedouin students studying in various tracks.
