La Cana

La Cana is a social enterprise that works with incarcerated women, by bringing productive programs and workshops, aimed at achieving the inmates effective reintegration process. We have a holistic intervention model which provides them not only with knowledge to become economically independent, but also empower them from the inside for them to create a better future for them and their families. We work in two main areas: (i) Job training and employment: We train the inmates in knitting and embroidery techniques, throughout workshops held weekly in each prison. The inmates are paid for their work, which is then sold around the country and internationally; (ii) Art Psychotherapy: Workshops held by professional psychologists, where through a creative process of making art, they help resignify the inmates understanding of themselves, and work with topics such as depression, anxiety, maternity in prison, domestic violence, amongst others
