LANKA MINERAL SANDS LIMITED

Lanka Mineral Sands Limited is a fully government owned company under the Ministry of Industrial Development.The functions of the company are Mining, Processing & Exporting of heavy mineral beach sands. The Processing plant is located at Pulmoddai in the Eastern cost of Sri Lanka.45km north of Trincomalee. The beach sand at Pulmoddai is very rich in valuble minerals namly ,Ilmenite,Rutile,Zircon,Monazite,Garnet and Silimanite with a percentage of 40-50% heavy minerals of wich 70% is Ilmenite,6% Rutile and 10% Zircon it has been estimated that a totla quantity of 16.6% million tones of unexploited valuable mineral sands are available in and arround Pulmoddai. THe plant at Pulmoddai has an annual capacity to produce 75,000 tones of Ilmenite.5,000 tones of Rutile and 3,750.00 tones of Zircon.
