LDS is the oldest student society at the GIK Institute responsible for all activities concerning literature, institute publications, as well as debating. The flagship event conducted by the Society is the GIK Open, one of Pakistans oldest debating tournaments. Subsidiaries of the society include the Debate Team, responsible for representing the Institute in external tournaments and friendlies, and the Scribes Writing Team, responsible for compiling the Institutes bi-annual newsletter, as well as the annual student magazine, Horizon
