Los Angeles School Police Department

The LASPD employs 404 sworn police officers, 138 school safety officers (SSOs), and has 38 support personnel. These dedicated men and women provide police services 24 hours a day/7days a week to over 900,000 students, 66,000 employees, over 1,342 schools and facilities spanning 710 square miles. The LASPD was established in 1948, and, over the last 60 years, has steadily grown and expanded the services provided to the LAUSD, which is the second largest school district in the United States. The LASPD is the second largest school police department in the United States and the fourth largest police department in Los Angeles County.
