Majlis Daerah Besut

On July 18th, 1996, the administrative areas of the Besut District Council were expanded, increasing the total area of the Council to 123,367.80 square kilometers. The district includes three main cities (Jerteh, Kampong Raja, and Kuala Besut) and four settlement centers (Pasir Akar, Jabi, Apal, and Alor Lintah) that provide goods, services, and administration to residents. In the context of the Terengganu State Structure Plan, Besut District serves as the regional center for the northern region of Terengganu State, with Jerteh as the main city for the northern region. The district focuses on developing basic agricultural industries, tourism services, and the Agropolis area, which serves as a hub for the collection and marketing of agricultural produce. Besut District is a significant producer of rice, palm oil, tobacco, and fruits for the state.
