MASTRANGELO / FMS (Fernando Mastrangelo Studio) is an experimental art and design studio specializing in unique sculptural objects and conceptual design. American-Uruguayan artist Fernando Mastrangelo is known for his hand-sculpted functional artworks, composed of natural or repurposed materials such as sand, salt, silica, and crushed or powdered glass. His artistic language is influenced by ecological issues, cultural metaphors, and a reverence for nature that borders on the devout. Born in the US, Mastrangelo spent his childhood and formative years in Mexico City and Buenos Aires. He received his MFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and his BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Before launching his own studio, Mastrangelo worked for celebrated artist Matthew Barney, who influenced his own artistic evolution.
